Li-Fi “Optical Communication” Patents

This Intellectual Property (IP) includes a portfolio of two granted U.S. Patent Nos. 8,706,815 and 8,447,813. The patent portfolio relates to optical communication.

The technology disclosed in the patents provides the following advantages:

  • Optical communication is employed to fill in the natural gaps in the peer-to-peer networks based on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi technologies
  • Li-Fi is one implementation of the technology. Li-Fi uses visible light to transmit data. Li-Fi is about 100 times faster than some Wi-Fi implementations, reaching speeds of 224 gigabits per second.
  • Wi-Fi is close to full capacity, whereas Li-Fi has almost no limitations on capacity. The visible light spectrum is 10,000 times larger than the entire radio frequency spectrum.
  • Li-Fi can be used electromagnetic sensitive areas such as in aircraft cabins, hospitals and nuclear power plants without causing electromagnetic interference

The global Wi-Fi Market is expect to be worth 33.6 Billion USD by 2020. The impact of these market entries is expected to present itself after 2015. The Li-Fi market is projected to have a compound annual growth rate of 82% from 2013 to 2018 and to be worth over $6 billion per year by 2018. Technology taught in this portfolio has the potential to secure a sizeable share of the market for wireless communications.

This patent portfolio is being offered for sale for $60k.
